Andre L. Daviau

   Popular Artist

Born in 1963 in Kirkland Lake (Ontario), Andrée Daviau doodles on all her hands can get on since childhood. Self-taught, she works with charcoal, ink, oils and soft pastels. For the past two years, she has concentrated her work on texture by exploring the mixing of materials (acrylic, oils, mortar, soft pastels and digital materials). Simultaneously semi-abstract and semi-figurative, her artwork explores the place of humans in creativity, this concealed place, excluded from gazes in our universe that artificially reproduces nature. Andrée Daviau is guided by her subconscious and intuitively she seeks to bring out, by the colors, the different layers of materials and by her strokes, quasi-organic, vein like, the human being. Between motherhood, work and working on  artwork, Andrée Daviau is involved in the region's artist community by acting as a mentor, a critic, a juror and an organizer of artistics events.

Artist Statement

Andrée focuses her work on the human body.  Using pastels and oils, she chooses to depict the body in nature, far from societal context.  Since 2006, she began adding texture to her work by mixing techniques and medias. The texture symbolizes the lines of age, of experience, of inner beauty. Guided subconsciously and intuitively, she brings to the canvas with each different layer of colors, each nerve-like, almost organic stroke, the human being.  Inspired by her social and physical environment, her recent work questions the place of information and technology in the life of humans.  By adding digital materials in her work, she depicts the human beings in search of values, intimacy and liberty.  The human beings become a variable in the digital equation.
